Birding efforts consist of patience and time, into nearby scrub habitats, at "Parque Nacional La Restinga" and around Macanao, and of course birding while walking around the island. Good birding can be found by crossing the
isthmus and heading north by turning right on to the road which circumnavigates Macanao. You could find some of the following abundant species in Macanao, at arid zones and mountains: Neotropic Cormorant, Rock Dove, Common Ground Dove, Eared Dove, White-tipped Dove, Scaled Dove, Brown Crested Flycatcher, Fork-tailed Flycatcher, Tropical Mockingbird, Gray-breasted Martin, Barn Swallow, Banana Quit, Black-faced Grass Quit, Carib Grackle, Crested Bobwhite and Yellow Oriole.

After some level kilometers, look for a gated road on your left with a "Parque Nacional La Restinga" sign indicating that it is the habitat for the Yellow-shouldered Parrot (Cotorra Margariteña). Several species can be found in mangroves: Laughing Gull, Cayenne Tern and Bicolored Conebill, so pay attention to them.
