This
Peninsula is located in the western part of Margarita Island, joined to the
eastern part by "La Restinga" National Park. Macanao Peninsula is
the occidental part of "Margarita", it begins at the isthmus of "La
Restinga" and is known for its little population, thorny xerophyte vegetation,
and its almost virgin beaches. The entrance is justly "Laguna de la Restinga
National Park" that combines 27 kilometers (16,7 mi) of coast with different
and beautiful canals that can be crossed on colorful boats, from which you can
watch flamingos, pelicans and parrots that share the branches of the mangrove
swamps. There´s no doubt!, you can´t miss this experience.
Only
15.000 inhabitants live in this region, most of them in little fishermen villages
spread along the coast. The internal part of the area is undeveloped, and is
inhabited by deers, goats, and hares that wander through the short vegetation
which nourishes them.
It
is a thinly populated region, special for those who wish to stay further away
from the crowds and tumult of Porlamar.

owns lonely beaches, virgin nature and an important amount of typical birds
from the region, such as the Yellow-shoulder Parrot, (during evenings it crosses
to the valleys in flocks); the red cardinal and the beautiful troupial which
is the National Bird of Venezuela.
